These are the first steps after a survey and discussing your brief. A really broad look at how the house should flow. Sometimes they bring about a different way of thinking about your house.

This project is now in for planning, we submitted a proposal close to the first image, a generous open plan kitchen with a dining space open to the garden, and a 'morning cup of tea window seat' ... more to come on this one 🙂

Oak cladding in Levenshulme looking great in the sunshine 5 years on. This project uses European oak with clear matt Osmo Polyx Oil, an overhanging drip detail to protect the oak. The protruding fins have even allowed a set back timber window sill which would usually be clad in aluminium. Thankful as ever for wonderful clients, I have really enjoyed taking this project from survey to planning submission. The clients and I worked hard to create an extension that embraces the wraparound garden but factors in the need to reduce the impact of south facing solar gain. We interrogated cherished moments of the day to day and made sure there was space for them.

Each drawing represents the detailed discussions that are going on behind the scenes, adding to the brief as we go. I have loved working on this extension in Sale with my awesome clients 🙂

Workstage 1 - sketch plans - where we really figure out what goes where, how you live in the house, what are your key moments in the day to get right...
Workstage 2 - measured CAD plans - we start to flesh out detail, looking at quantities of kitchen cabinetry to make sure the space is sufficient, where each window goes and why, looking at costs, heating, how to keep the house cool...
Workstage 3 - we focus on the planning elements, what it looks like externally, materials, glazing...
